Mobile Phones Latest - Leading mobile phone makers lose market share.

The world's leading mobile phone makers are losing market share to non-brand manufacturers, according to research.
Analysts at Gartner say smaller, Asian companies accounted for a third of worldwide handset sales in July, August and September.
Nokia is still the biggest seller of mobiles, followed by Samsung and LG.
Meanwhile, Google's Android operating system has sharply increased its share and is now the second most popular mobile operating system after Symbian.
Rising Sales Gartner says 417 million phones were sold globally during the period - an increase of 35% from the year before.
All of the large manufacturers, except Apple, lost market share to companies that make handsets without a brand.
Apple leapfrogged Research In Motion, which makes Blackberry, to fourth place.
"White-box manufacturers continued to expand their reach outside of China into markets such as India, Russia, Africa and Latin America," said Carolina Milanesi from Gartner.

"We firmly believe this phenomenon will not be short-lived as we still see a continued need for non-3G devices."
China's Huawei and ZTE increased their share of sales, as did HTC of Taiwan.
The number of phones which use Google's Android operating system has been rising rapidly, challenging established rivals.
Android was on 25% of all phones sold during the period, overtaking Microsoft Windows Mobile and Apple's iOS.
Last year, the equivalent figure was 3.5%.
"Google is maintaining a fast pace," said the Gartner report. "Each version brings new features and polish to Android, and the level of innovation is a major innovator."

Nokia's new N76

Nokia says this is better than Razr

Squint your eyes and Nokia's new N76 bears more than a little resemblance to an iconic Motorola phone that popularized thin. But Nokia's newest phone, which premiered at CES, is more than a Razr knockoff, the company maintains.
There's some truth to that. The phone sports a 2-megapixel camera, which can be used in landscape mode. The device also has a 3.5mm jack for standard headphones. And it also sports easy access to Web sites like Flickr and Amazon.com.
But on the whole, the phone looks very much like a Razr. It's got nice materials like chrome and stainless steel, something Motorola made popular. And it sits in your hand much the same way as a Razr.
Hey if you gotta copy/get inspiration from something, it might as well be a world leader like the Razr.
Nokia
Nokia is also pushing its N800 Internet Tablet, which also debuted at CES. The N800 updates the N770 by giving it a Webcam, doubling the processor speed and internal memory, and providing two slots for SD memory cards. The design also got a makeover with a cleaner look that includes speakers that run along the bottom of the tablet.

The N800 is another of those devices that is trying to carve its own niche between a regular laptop and a PDA or cell phone. It's big enough to surf the Web comfortably, but it's small enough to tote around the house. With the new improvements, we should have a better sense if devices like the N800 are going to resonate with users.
